Starting their search, they found a King Charles Cavalier breeder living in Poughkeepsie, NY who was looking for an owner of the last puppy left from a litter. They contacted her and were told that the puppy was supposed to be taken by a family who was going back and forth about it. Well, wife spoke to husband, husband spoke to wife and moments later they decided to go see said puppy. They had driven three hours to this breeder in October, 2010. They got there at night and felt as if they were in the middle of nowhere. Once they got there, they knew this puppy needed to come back home with them. They had to make a quick decision on becoming pet parents. The puppy was about four months old and looked like a furry, black dachshund that ran very fast. Their quick decision led to taking her home right away without even being prepared for a little visitor. Now husband and wife became Mom and Dad. All they were given was some food, a very small crate and one of her toys… this was all they had to deal with overnight until they had more time to make a home for her. They were probably more scared than she was back then.
Now, the little puppy, named ZOE after one of their favorite neighborhood stores, sleeps with them and they wouldn’t trade these morning times for anything else. She touches their faces with her paws, puts her face right up against theirs and has eyes staring at them every morning asking Mommy, Daddy, let’s get up! Zoe has changed their lives in too many ways to describe. Best part, seeing her messed up hair from sleeping… patiently waiting for us to come home everyday… she has become a part of the family and there is no way to go anywhere without her, other than flying or anywhere else dogs aren’t allowed.
Because of Zoe, they started to notice other dogs and their personalities too. They feel that animals have no agenda other than to be loved by their owners and never realized how having a dog could change your world.
Mom says that Zoe picks up on their moods and knows exactly what to do to change it for the better. "She wants to be a part of their regular routine at home. She thinks she’s a person in a dog’s body and Mom and Dad agree. She knows exactly what to do to have her parents wrapped around her paws! We loved her right away, that little munchkin!" Little Dipper loved her right away too!
